The Hedgehog Concept was first introduced by Jim Collins in his book, 'Good to Great', which showed how corporations could go from being merely good companies to being great ones.
The concept is based on a fable:
The hedgehog, when attacked by the fox, rolls into a little ball. He does this everytime. That's the one thing that beats the fox everytime.
It's the hedgehog's core strategy that makes him win, no matter how many different strategies and tactics the fox uses.
For businesses, he says that we must figure out our core business, stick to it, and become good at it.
The way for a a business to find its Hedgehog is by looking at the intersection of three wheels:
Personal Hedgehog
I've adapted it to create a model that maximizes potential in individuals, so that you can do what you love, become good at what you do, and earn what you deserve.
This is what a personal hedgehog looks like:
Your Personal Hedgehog focuses on the intersection of your Passion, your Expertise, and your Money Wheel.
This is the core that makes you unique and differentiates you in the market.
It forms the basis of your Unique Value Proposition.
